Pimples on Vagina Among Teens

Teens is the age when you get a lot of pimples. As they occur elsewhere, they may occur in the genital region as well.

How Do You Get Pimples?

The genital area is supplied heavily with glands that secrete oily lubricating secretions to ease friction during sexual activities. These glands are overactive during teens and early adulthood. Clogging of the glands by excessive secretions or tissue debris leads to pimple formation.

The problem is further aggravated if there is a moisture because it accelerates pimple formation. It also makes the pimples prone to infection. There are many bacteria living in the region. They also tend to grow faster if the surrounding skin is moist.

Some people are more prone to having pimples than others. This largely depends on their skin type and the kind of diet they take. In general, the more oily, fatty or sugary you eat, the more likely it is that you get pimples.

Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink lots of water. Such a diet is a good detoxifier and will help you get rid of acne.

Dealing With Pimples

Managing pimples include steps that hinder bumps formation.

Pimples are formed when some duct draining the glands of the genital region gets blocked. This may occur when the glands are very active- as in teenage or young adulthood. Besides moisture is trapped down there, especially when the area is not washed regularly.

Jump to 3 simple and quick methods to treat them yourself.

So, looking into factors that lead to pimple formation may suggest ways to avoid getting acne.

Preventive Steps

  • Wash the vaginal region regularly with plain water. This would wash off excessive secretions and clean up the tissue debris that might otherwise block the openings of oil glands.  No soaps or gels are required for cleaning. Clean your genital area with just plain water during bathing. However, you need to do this daily.
  • In fact, using any harsh washing agent may dry up the area and lead to increased shedding of dry skin cells. These cells may block the oil glands and lead to pimple formation. This seems to be counterintuitive but factually dry skin is more prone to pimple formation.  Also, soap may kill good bacteria living there, and hence make your vagina prone to fungus and yeast.
  • Avoid dampness in the groin area. Wear loose cotton undergarments as far as possible, especially at night times. This will soak moisture and hence discourage acne formation.
  • Avoid wearing tight pants and other sources of friction. Rubbing may inflame skin and mucosa.
  • Once you have pimples, avoid shaving the region, till the pimples get healed. This will prevent injury to the pimples.
  • Avoid eating too much of sugary, fried and fatty stuff. Such foods make grounds for getting more pimples.
  • Keep your system cleansed by eating plenty of seasonal fruits, salads and boiled vegetables in your diet. Such a food is natural cleanser. Also, you get all the essential vitamins and minerals required for good skin.
  • Limit your intake of caffeine, which is present in drinks like tea, coffee and certain soft drinks such as coke. This chemical dehydrates the skin, and dry skin gets more pimples.
  • Stay active. Include a set of regular workouts in your daily schedule. This makes your skin breathe and become healthy.
  • If you get a vaginal pimple, don’t pop or squeeze. That would cause infection, which may spread to give more of such lesions.
  • Manage an individual pimple by keeping it clean and dry. You may try warm compress over it to soften its outer covering.
  • If it gets red or painful, it might be infected. Local antibiotics are required in such cases.

Can you start applying a thick layer of antibiotic ointment over it? Mupirocin may be used thrice daily.

Also, try warm compress over the lesion. This may soften it and help penetration of the medicine inside it, and may help draining it too. Do not, however, force drainage.

It’s nothing bad. Having pimples around your vaginal area is completely normal. Popping them is not good because it may turn into deep vagina infection. Thus some women do it, you should not. Vaginal area pimples must be soaked in warm water.

I am 11 and also a virgin. I got a medium sized bump 3 centimetres away from my vagina where the hair grows. At first it was tender but I think my underwear is too tight and now it is redish and bigger and painful to touch. It is also sometimes itchy but I am afraid to scratch it. I used to have bumps closer to my vagina before but they were smaller and disappeared faster. I got this one about 4 days ago. I don’t want to go to the doctor because I am too nervous and embarrassed. Please tell me how to treat it at home? I have Already tried the warm compress.

These pimples sound infected. Don’t pop or squeeze it.

You need to keep the area clean and dry. Wash the whole pubic area daily with water, no soap or gels to be used. Then apply mupirocin ointment (bactroban) over the pimples, twice a day, once in the morning and once at bedtime. Do this for a week.

These are very likely to be teenage pimples. During these years ,the glands down there are very active and excess of secretions coupled with moisture, as near menses, makes grounds for pimple formation.

I believe those are fordyce spots. If it is many many of them all in what looks like little white balls under the skin. They are normal, and happen to men and woman. They can be on the inner labia, penial shaft &skin over the testes as well as your mouths lips (usually show up more there if sunburnt) its just glands and nothing to be self conscious about.

May be some kind of allergy. Have you tried any new product recently in the region?

Or it may be some fungal infection. The groin region has a tendency to stay moist, especially when we wear tight clothes. This leads to accumulation of moisture there which aids in the growth of fungus.

Observe some general care of the region. Wear only loose cotton undergarments as far of possible to let the region breathe and stay clean and dry.

It is not ethical to lose your virginity before marriage!

There are several reasons for it. Firstly, this would protect you from unwanted diseases, which are commonly transmitted during teenage sex. Secondly, you get a chance to be more mature till you build a happy and stable relationship with someone for life.

Sex should ideally be a sequel of a stable loving relationship. There are always chances of getting pregnant after sex. Abortions may sound simple, but are painful, both emotionally and physically.

You can prevent yourself from emotional breakdowns and focus on studies right now. If for conscious is stopping you, listen to your conscious.

All the best for a healthy life.

I finished my period two weeks ago and a few days after that I got a bump on the surface of my vagina. Most of the time it hurts to the touch or when I’m wearing tight clothing, and it doesn’t really itch. But eventually it pops for itself and heals within two days. I’ve always been getting this even before I started having sex because I shave a lot down there, but I haven’t had sex since August 2012 and now I’m just really curious to know what it is. I also used to get it on my inner thigh and sometimes on my butt but I thought it was because I’m a little heavy set and my thighs rub together. Is this because I shave? Another thing I’m curious about are blackheads that I get on my inner thighs and I also got one under my left breast. I heard that it was something called Hidradenitis Supprativa but I haven’t been to a doctor to be sure about it. Sorry for the multiple questions, I really appreciate the help.

Drink plenty of water and consume fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid fried fatty stuff. Prefer wearing loose cotton based clothing to avoid moisture getting trapped anywhere over the body. Trapped moisture, sebum and tissue debris over the body are the cause of pimples and black heads.

It went away but then I noticed a blood blister in the same place. I popped that too and lots of blood came out, and after a few days it went. Then a few weeks later it came back and I did the same thing. Now I’ve got a blood blister again. What should I do??

Sounds like a blister in the region. Such a lesion may occur due to friction from clothes (like when you wear tight jeans), or it may be some infection.

It would be better to see doctor for examination.

Hi, I am 15 and I have had a bump on the lip of my vagina once before about a week before my period and it has come back again. I’m due to start again in a couple of days. I am a virgin so I know it’s not anything sex related but I’m worried because it’s got worse and hurts when I walk. I have been wearing loose cotton underwear and applying a hot compress but it’s got bigger. What should I do??

Continue doing warm compress twice daily, once in the morning and once before bedtime. This will soften the skin over the bump and help in draining it.

Your bump is likely to have pus in it. Accumulated pus is giving it that tension, which is causing pain.

Pus needs to be drained to relieve pain. This is usually possible by daily warm compress. Be gentle while doing the warm compress technique. Do not force drainage. Let the drainage be slow, over 3 to 4 days.

Also, apply mupirocin, bactroban, ointment over the bump twice daily, after each warm compress.

Are you sexually active? If yes, it would be necessary to rule out the presence of STD’s.

Does the bump has pus in it? If yes, it is essential to drain out the collected pus. For that, try warm compress over the area on a repeated basis, may be thrice a day. This will soften the overlying skin and help in draining the pus. Also, apply some antibiotic cream, like mupirocin, over it.

If there is no pus in the bump, you may apply some OTC topical anti-inflammatory cream (like betnovate) over the lesion. This ointment may be applied twice daily for three days. Over use of the medicine may produce side effects. Therefore, it is advisable to use it for 3 to 5 days only.

These are very likely to be ingrown hair. They occur more after you shave the region.

You may try warm compresses over those bumps to soften them. As it softens, the black stuff inside them may come out.

It is common to get pimples down there, just as you get them elsewhere in the body. To prevent them, keep the groin region clean and dry.

Wash it daily with water, while you bathe. Do not use any soap or gel there. Wear loose cotton underwear to let the area breathe and be well ventilated. If you let moisture get accumulated there, it may give you pimples.

Very tight lowers can give more of pimples. Let your lowers be loose, most of the time.

Eat healthy, more of fruits and vegetables and less of fatty food stuff. Avoid junk food. Drink lots of water.

Tea and coffee are dehydrating. Limit their use. Read more on the topic above.

Keep applying a topical antibiotic cream over the pimple, twice daily for at least a week. You may use the cream you have or buy mupirocin (bactroban) for the purpose.

Also, try warm compress over it, before bedtime. This would soften its covering and may help draining pus out of it, if any. Be gentle while doing the procedure.

It’s been at least five or six months and today I noticed a bump on the front of my vagina. I showed my mom but she just said it was a genital pimple. Me being worried and concerned looked up genital bumps and I’m not sure if it is an std or just a regular pimple. I really am worried. I don’t want an std. (We didn’t use a condom), so I just need to know. The bump looks like a pinkish circle the size of a dime. It doesn’t itch but it doesn’t have pus like a pimple would. I have no clue what it is. I found a tiny red, itchy and painful bump on the inner flap of my vagina. I found it about two days ago. First, it started with pain on my right hip and side, then I had a massive headache and my head kept spinning and I started to see things. Then I started to have a terrible sore throat and I kept on coughing badly. Some days later, my eyes were painful and irritating. On Friday, my sister and I went to my dad’s house to watch some movies but when I came back, all of a sudden, I started to feel pain in my vaginal area, it felt like something on the right of my vagina was blocking the left, something big. However, when I checked, it was just a tiny red bump. It’s really painful because at first, it felt like something was going up my vaginal hole but now it’s very itchy and painful that it has now gotten to the extend that I cant even sleep at night because of the pain and irritation and it is very painful to pee. Now when I wipe, I see little dots of blood. Doctor, I’m only 13, I’ve never had sex before, so what could this be?

It could be a pimple. Or else, it could be tightness or firmness of the clitoris that’s giving you the pain.

This organ is very vascular and sensitive. It is common in your age group for it to become highly sensitized at times, and give a sort of severe ache or pain.

Just relax. You may gently rub a lubricant, like bland olive oil, over it.

Commonest cause in your age group is congestion, that occurs due to hyper stimulation. If you masturbate, be gentle and use a lubricant. Reduce the frequency of such activities and distract yourself from all sex provoking stuff.

Other causes include allergy to be garment, beauty product or cream used there. If you’ve used any new stuff recently, refraining from it may help.

Im a 16 year old African American teenager & I have very very bad vaginal acne 🙁 . I started shaving at 12 , and ever since then my lady garden hasn’t been settle.. every few weeks (that i would shave) I would get reoccurring pimples or cysts even ingrown hairs there. Razor bumps are too common as well. Even a little below my belly button because I grew hair there too(I don’t know how). I change my razor like every few months & shave with shaving products but shaving doesnt help AT ALL. I get ingrowns and pimples and once I pop them or irritate them the pimples go away I get scars. The scars are so far out that if i was to wear a bikini I would be EMBARRASSED. I don’t know what to do and I’m gery insecure about it.. Very. My area has discoloration due to shaving and many many razor scars and old spots that won’t go away! I don’t feel comfortable talking to my mom about it because she doesn’t take me serious and if i bring it up too often she’ll think I’m having sex (which I am not,I’m a virgin).

I’m 16 and after recently shaving very carefully with a new razor and soothing shaving creme I had small bumps on the top near my stomach. At first I figured it was just razor bumps/burns and tried to keep it clean and moisturized, but then a huge bump formed then started to pop by it’s self and leaked out blood, then it got smaller and is purplish but doesn’t hurt. Now there is another giant bump towards the very top that is a dark pink/red. The bump is extremely hard and almost feels like a knot, but it’s hurts really bad. I thought it was just ingrown hairs, but I’m not for sure since it doesn’t quite resemble an ingrown hair.
I’m honestly really scared because the bump won’t open or go down.
I’m not sure what it is or what to do.

I have red pimpleish things on my mons (I think that’s what it’s called) but they are flat and don’t itch. They are literally just red dots on my upperish area. I’m not super worried, just a little curious. I don’t normalls shave, but when I do, they’re very visable. When I don’t shave, you can see them slightly through my pubic hair. I know it isn’t an STD because I’m a virgin and 13.

          Unlikely to be a infection.

May be heat rash. You may just keep the area well moisturized. Avoid wearing tight lowers. Avoid using any harsh soap or gel there. Likely to go away on their own.

This is a pimple, in all likelihood. Just keep the region clean and dry. try warm compress over it thrice daily. This may soften it and help drainage. However, do not force drainage.

You may also start using any antibiotic ointment over it, thrice daily.

I’m 17, not sexually active and I have a lump on the top of my vagina. It was a spot and I popped it and some yellow puss came out with lots of blood. Since popping it, it has turned into a hard purple lump that is very sore. I wash down there every day with water no soap and I always wear loose underwear to stop rubbing. I’m worried as this has been there for over two weeks now.

Try warm compress over it, twice daily. This may help softening it and eventually help in drainage. Do not force drainage. Give it 3 to 5 days time.

Also, you may start applying an antibiotic ointment over it thrice daily.

Normal for your age. Keep the area clean and dry to prevent them. Avoid moisture getting trapped there.

No. Masturbation is a natural urge. You may do it.

Just be gentle, not to damage your delicate parts.

First thing to check is if there are tiny pieces of glass in your cuts. If yes, they need to be carefully removed. Wash your hand under tap water stream thoroughly. This would wash off all pieces of glass, any dirt or germs, excess blood and also help arresting bleeding.

In most cases, the cuts are clean and nothing needs to be done. However, in case of any pain or swelling, an antibiotic ointment may be applied over the cuts for a week.

          1. Buddy M.D. Post author

Vaginal walls are very richly supplied with blood vessels. So, cuts, if any, would heal quickly. There would be no long term damage to the vagina.

Likely to be a pimple. Just maintain it clean and avoid friction over it. It would heal on its own with time.

Nothing to worry. It’s likely to have been a pimple that has drained itself. You just need to keep the area clean and avoid friction over it. It would heal an its own with time.

It’s good to wear the pad. This would keep the area dry and aid in early healing of the bump. The bump is likely to heal on its own with time.

However, if it pains, you may use any antibiotic cream over it.

Very likely to be a pimple. Is this painful? If yes, it may be infected and you need to put some antibiotic over it.

If not, you may leave it as such. Likely to regress on its own with time.

Okay, so I have been trying to figure out what’s been the problem. I think I either have a cyst or a boil, but I don’t know the difference. In my opinion, I think it’s from an ingrown hair that’s been infected. I’ve had this quite a while, because I know that I have only shaved my public hair twice. It’s big and swollen. I once was scratching around that area, and that’s how i noticed it. I then picked at it and popped it. Pus was posing out. I knew it was pus because it wasn’t blood, and I picked something. Maybe it’s an infected cyst? I feel like it’s deep under my skin. It’s red and ugly, I don’t wanna deal with this. I also don’t wanna tell my parents yet because it’s very embarrassing. I’ve been thinking to apply a warm rag to it daily and apply tea tree oil. Please tell me what you know and what I should or shouldn’t do.

It hurts when I apply pressure. I read somewhere online that I shouldn’t pop it, and that it can be “surgically removed.” However, I’m only fourteen years old and I’m not an adult that’s sexually active or anything. Maybe I will tell my mother, but she might pop it and the pus will ooze our, and then it’ll be more infected. However, I don’t know if she ever had my problem, or if she knows what it is. It’s just so embarrassing and I’m stressing out. I hope you reply quick.

Try repeated warm compress over it. This would soften the skin overlying the lesion and aid drainage.

Also, start applying any antibiotic ointment you have over it, thrice daily.

Well, lesion is the ingrown hair you probably have. You may use mupirocin ointment. Do let us know if it improves.

I saw a bump that looked like a big pimple about the size of a nickle and after about a week of not touching it or popping it, it now is party purple and the other half is yellow and looks like puss.

This one is likely to open up and drain spontaneously. You may try warm compress to help it drain early.

Since it is self confined, no medication required.
