Painful Pimple on Inner Labia

Q: I am a 29 year old female. For the past six months, during my period, a very painful bump appears on the right side of the labia minora. Just after my period ends, blood and pus comes out of this bump. I was wondering what this is and how can I treat it? Thank you.

There is increased tendency of acne formation during menses. This bump sounds like a pimple in the labia minora region. You may read about 3 simple and quick methods to treat them yourself.

The hormonal changes during periods is one of the factors causing it. Moreover, during menses the moistness of the vaginal region increases, making it more favorable for pimples to grow and get infected.

Just take care of the bump as any other pimple. If it remains sore and exudes puss, then treat it as infected lesion.

Continue treatment….

Sweating too much down there, can definitely be a factor for the recurrence of vaginal pimples.

To deal with this, you need to wear loose cotton underwear only. Keep the area well aerated and avoid moisture being trapped there.

When you get pimples, try healing them with warm compresses. Do this twice daily. Over the pimples that pain, apply a topical antibiotic like mupirocin.

I notice a bump on the left inner labia, and it is sore, painful, and it use to itch. But not anymore it’s just sore, and painful now. I keep touching it because it worries it. The bump has gotten big and is being sore again. HELP! PLEASE!

You need to put some antibiotic cream over it. You may apply mupirocin over it twice a day for three days.

Also, try warm compress over the bump each time before applying the antibiotic cream. This may help draining it and would ease tension.

I have a big bump on my labia minora on the right side, and it’s getting bigger these past few days. It is so painful, I don’t want to get out of bed, what’s causing it? And is it going to mess with my period? I’m already late for this month and to be honest I didn’t get my period last month. I’m afraid to tell my mother, and I’m not sexually active, it’s been about a year since I last was and this is the first time something like this has happened to me. HELP!!!

Try warm compress over the bump. Do this twice a day. After each warm compress, dab dry the area and apply mupirocin (bactroban) over the bump.

This ointment is available over the counter.

Your bump is likely to subside in 3 to 5 days.

I had this small disc shaped mass slightly raised about 0.5 cm on the posterolateral part of my vagina. Since 3 days I could feel some swelling coming around it and now it has become reddish soft tender and some discharge is coming out of it. I am not sexually active and my periods ended two weeks back. I am too embarrassed to go to a doctor and I have been applying an ointment containing clotrimazole, neomycin and beclomethasone dipropionate. I am very much stressed about this. Please help.

Any improvement on applying the ointment? If it’s an infection, it would respond to the ointment.

If it’s not responding, it would be better to see a doctor. It could be herpes.

Doctor, I had seen your earlier replies and tried using mupirocin since yesterday along with wiping the area with warm water. Thankfully it’s responding now. The swelling has decreased in size. Thanks

I have got a bump/lump on the inside of my inner labia minora. At first before I seen it i was itching then it appeared last Wednesday morning. It was really painful and the whole vaginal area was really dry, I tried to pop it a few days later and a tint but of pus came out but still sore, couple days later it has reduced in size as it was like the size of a pea on top and underneath the skin inside, it now feels like a tiny little bump and not painful. Any idea what this could be?

It could be an infected cyst or pimple there.

Just keep the area clean and well moisturized. Avoid friction over the lesion. It’s likely to heal by itself in a week’s time. If it doesn’t, you may need to take antibiotics.

Take a healthy diet, full of fresh fruits and vegetables, in it. Include home made curd in your daily diet. This would promote healing.

I popped it abit more yesterday and a bit of blood came out. It has really reduces in size and is not painful anymore just feels like a tiny hard dot now where as last week it was like a big lump and hurt when I was wiping. I have been eating fatty foods a lot for the past month and not had a very good diet. Any idea how long it will take for the little lump to go now? It has been a week simce it’s reduced in size just want the remaining tiny lump to go and it had no head I had to try and pop with a pin. Is it common this problem in women?

Yes, it’s a common problem. You get them often when you lose on nutrition and hence weaken your immune system. Bacteria get a chance to attack tiny glands out there, which are obviously their easy prey.

Just take all precautions. Keep it clean and avoid friction over it. It may still take a week to 10 days to disappear.

Hi Budddy. I took my dog for a walk in the wooods and I felt like I have been bittten offf something. I felt a sharp little sting and immediately was scratching. Then next morning my leg swelled up and all red and feels like a hard lump of masss underneath the bite I have got 2 one of them has blistered I don’t know whether it is because I have scratched it but it’s quite sore. I think it is a midgie bite. The swelling seems to be going down but the blister is only really tiny. What should I do to get rid of the blister and the lump?

You need to take antibiotics at the earliest. This appears to be infected, most likely due to scratching.

Hi! I wear tight pants to work all the time and sit at the tills for hours on end, I get constant uti. I have got one at the moment as I went to the doctors a few weeks ago and they found blood in my urine I did not take all of my antibiotics as I thought it went, sadly not. Every time I wee it doesn’t burn but leaves a burning sensation after I pass it. Also when I wipe I’m seeing brown jelly like bits in my clear discharge, any idea what this is as I came off my period two weeks ago, my wee is really dark as well. I have got cramps but I am on the nexaplon implant so I don’t know if I am due to come on my period as I never know but I feel a burning sensation in my clit where I weee from.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day. You may take cranberry pills, available over the counter. They may help.

The antibiotics I’m on have stained my discharge when I wipe. I think I have irritated my vagina hole to much trying to get discharge out to see if it looks normal. Now it feels quite raw and got a slight burn sensation. I’m at my wits end any idea how to get rid of this feeling in my vagina. I know I shouldn’t of wiped so hard up the hole.

It does look like an injury or trauma, as previously said.

Just wash the area gently, without using any soap or gel. Only water to be used. Dab dry and apply any vaginal emollient for a few days. Give the area time to recover.

Well I had sex with my boyfriend other weekend. He fingered my ass, then vagina quite hard and since then I felt a uti is going on. I had no burning in my vagina opening hole though since I went in the shower and douched my vagina with water, now I feel a slight burn quite uncomfortable and feel like I need to wee constantly. I am going on holiday 7th August and I really want this burning feeling to go away in the vagina. I have also been moving around in it as well so it might of irritated it. How can I help the burning?

Keep the area clean by washing it thoroughly. Then apply any vaginal moisturizer over it to combat dryness. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

If it doesn’t improve in a day or two, you need to see a gyne for diagnosis. This may be an infection.

I think by douching it I’ve ruined the ph balance in there minus the dryness. Anything I can do to lubricate it again get it back to normal? Been drinking water, I’ve put vagisil on, it isnt really burning now just feels abit dry and sore because I was mauling round with it with the tissue. Can I have made it burn cos of goig in and out the opening with tissue looking for discharge? Has that irritated it.

      Yes ,most likely.

Apply any vaginal emollient over it after the wash. The emollient should be bland, without any perfumes, to avoid irritation.

To regain back the vaginal pH, consume home made curd in your meals. You’ll get your pH back in a day or two.

Any yogurt / curd available in the market would do. Or else, you may take a probiotic drink.

I want my natural lubrication to come back 🙁 I don’t want to be dry as it’s uncomfortable and will ruin sex. Have I messed it up by wiping the hole to hard then?

Your natural lubrication would definitely return with time. However, for the while, it’s better to use lubricating jellies.

I’m scared that it will never return now. I’ve been dry since Friday afternoon. When I wipe my discharge isn’t wet like normal. It’s like dried up bits that look like dried snot that’s coming out my vagina hole. I’m having back cramps but no sign of period coming. When I had my water infection I didn’t feel that dry but since I was wiping inside with toilet roll I have felt really dry. I am scared to have sex with my boyfriend now incase it’s dry. I normally am lubricated all the time as my boyfriend has noticed that, even when I am not turned on I can get quite wet. I have cried the past 2 days because I am afraid this is what I’m left with. I don’t really want to use lube as it isn’t the same as being naturally wet. It isn’t burning up there. I have masturbated and normally when I finish I am quite wet but nothing really still dry :'( it is making me so depressed I haven’t got the money to go and see a doctor I am absolutely petrified that this is forever now and I will be dry all my life. I go on holiday on Monday and I’m not even excited to go now because I feel like sex will be no existent with my boyfriend who I really love. I have tried thrush cream and it isn’t burning now as I put it up the internal one, it has help lubricate it and get rid of the mild burning but I’m still dry. I keep applying the external cream on the outside and near the entrance but I don’t know if this will help I’m drinking water. I ate a yoghurt I really just want it gone now. I’m scared of going to have sex. Please doctor tell me what I can do to get my natural lubrication back I have anxiety and this is making it worse.

Hello, new to this site. Just need to clear a few things up.
Basically it’s a little bit embarrassing but hey ho. Around the middle of May I used my sisters dildo. It was a rabbit one. Like a silicone rubber. She recently split with her boyfriend who cheated on her behind her back, say if she did have anything std wise from him, could I have caught it? It has been terrorizing my head for a while and I’m having panick attacks thinking about it. When I used it no bodily fluid was on as she wipes it off with a babywipe after as I know because her bin had some in. When I used it I think the last time she did was maybe a day or two before me maybe 3… she isn’t sure if she has got anything from him but I am to embarrassed to tell her and ashamed???. Can stds survive on toys for long? I read when exposes to air they die and If no wet fluid on I’ll be fine.

I get really painful pimples in my genital area just before my period and this time too I got one under the skin on the right side of the labia minora, it’s been hard for me to walk straight from the last 3-4 days and that too while having my period. I’m 25 years old and I occasionally get pimples on face and frequently on my back too. I’ve been freaking out if it’s something I should be worried about. I don’t want to visit a doctor. Please help.
