Q: I have a few red bumps, some with white tips in my vaginal flaps. I know they’re not STDs because I am a virgin. Should I wait till they go away? I don’t want to go to a doctor since it is embarrassing. Is there any home remedy?

Sounds like you have pimples on your vaginal lips.

Pimples are common in your age group. As anywhere else in the body, they also occur in the vaginal area. You may read about 3 simple and quick methods to treat them yourself.

There is nothing to worry. They will gradually subside away with time.

Home Care

  • Just keep the area clean and dry.
  • Wear loose cotton undergarments. This is suggested because cotton fabric absorb any extra moisture not letting it accumulate in the area.
  • Try cleaning with warm compress. This may be quite helpful.
  • Never squeeze or scratch those pimples. They may get infected.
  • If there is any pain or discharge from them, it would be suggestive of an infection. Then an antibiotic cream application would be required.
  • Eat healthy. Let your diet include more of fresh fruits and cooked vegetables. Cut down on fatty stuff. This reduces overall occurrence of pimples.
  • Stay physically active for a good blood circulation.

A few days ago I just finished my period. Then all of a sudden I saw this lump next to my vagina area. I got really worried.

I tried everything like hot water, ice cubes but nothing worked. It feels so painful that I can’t even move properly. I have problems sleeping because it’s a lot of pain. I’m only 12.

I’m not sure what to do. I can’t sit anywhere properly because it keeps hurting. I’m thinking of visiting a doctor, but I’m not sure.

I’m in a lot of pain right now, I cry every night because I just can’t stand it anymore, what can I do? Please help me.

You need to see a doctor at the earliest. This may not be a simple pimple. Since it is so painful, there are chances of it being a boil or a furuncle. It may be filled with pus.

You may require some antibiotic treatment. So don’t delay.

Just a general care, as detailed above, should be enough for your pimples. It is very common to have more pimples around teenage.

Are you near your menses? Pimples may flare up around menses. Read more about it.

      Do the following:

      1. Keep the area clean and dry. Only plain water wash is recommended, no soaps or medications.
      2. After each wash, apply a bland emollient like plain coconut oil over the area.
      3. Trim your nails, they may traumatize your pimples and infect them.
      4. Consider including yogurt in your diet.
      5. Try warm compresses for pain.

I’m 15. I thought that the multiple white dots on the inner parts of my vagina were normal. I have popped one, so I think it might be vagina pimples. But I am not sure. I am not sexually active.

Most likely, these white dots are tiny pimples. They are clogged openings of various oil glands present in the region for better lubrication.

You need to keep the area very clean and dry. These will go on their own in a few days. Read above about steps to be taken to heal these pimples.

I completed my 23 yr in August. I am unmarried now but I’m fatty with height 5 ft 1 inch. And weight is 62.

I have irregular periods. Sometime period comes in 2 months and sometime it takes 6 months. When they come after long time it takes 2 months regular period like drooping with pain, clots and weakness.

I have tried lots of doctors and there medicines but no benefit. In December, doctor advised me some tests like abdomen ultrasound, sugar, thyroid, urine and hemoglobin. All reports came normal.

Please help me. I’m very disturbed from all these in my studies.

Irregular periods may be due to hormonal problems. When the reproductive hormones are not in appropriate concentrations, menstrual cycles are irregular.

There are many factors which affect the hormonal levels in young girls. They include stress levels, being over weight or under weight, any illness etc.

You need to relax first and try stabilizing your mind. Try meditating in some form. Eat proper and sleep well. Try loosing some weight.

As your mind and body relax back, your hormones may also come to normal levels and stabilize your menses. If the problem persists, medications may be considered. Your doctor may consider putting you on hormonal pills for some time.

I am 16 and haven’t shaved in 5 months ago. I have long vaginal hair I am getting pimples where the hair grows and it hurts. I wanna tell no one. Please tell me what I can do?

Hair do have a tendency to trap moisture. It is important to keep the area clean and dry.

If you are having pimples on the region, it is suggested that you don’t shave. Shaving may injure the pimples. Let the pimples heal first.

Since your pimples are hurting, you may try warm compress over the pimples. This will soften them and ease the tension inside the acne. Then apply some topical antibiotic like mupirocin (bactroban) over it.

Do this for a week. Your pimples would gradually go away. Once they are gone, you may shave the area.

I am 19 years old and whenever I masturbate I get repeated vaginal pimples. I do clean my genital parts regularly after that but still the growth does not stop. I have doubt if it’s a herpes or pimple. I have read many articles about herpes and genital pimple but I am unable to distinguish between them. Please help me.

Since they are yellow-green, we can infer that your pimples are infected.

You need to do the following:

    2. Do warm compress over the pimples at least twice a day. Try draining the pus that can come out of them without pain (easily).
    3. Keep the area clean and dry (ventilated). Wear soft cotton undergarments only.
    4. Apply a topical antibiotic like mupirocin over it twice a day (after each warm compress).

Hi, I am 13 years old and I have heaps and heaps and heaps of tiny white dots around my vagina and on my vagina lips. Would these dots be vaginal pimples? (They are never painful or anything).

    1. Buddy M.D. Post author

These may be tiny sebaceous glands, which are clogged.

Since they are symptomless, there is no infection and nothing to worry.

All you need to do is to keep the region dry and clean. Wash it daily with plain water. Wear loose cotton underwear to keep the area dry and breathable.

Eat right, less of fats and more of fruits and vegetables.

I eat a lot of vegetables but in the same time a lot of unhealthy food, and I never had a pimple in this area. Because it’s bigger than acne is it normal? what should I do ?

It sounds infected. Don’t wait any longer. Start applying a topical antibiotic cream over it. You may apply mupirocin twice daily for a week over the bump.

Avoid wearing jeans or any other tight garment. Wear cotton frocks or skirts till the bump gets alright. This is to avoid friction there.

Are you sexually active? If yes, you need to go to a doctor to rule out the possibility of any STD.

If you are not sexually active, you may treat this painful bump like an infected pimple. Do warm compress over it twice daily. This would soften its outer surface and help in draining it. Drainage may take time, may be 3 to 4 days. You need to be very gentle with the pimple, no squeezing or popping. Let it be a natural drainage.

Also, start applying an antibiotic cream (mupirocin/ bactroban) over it, twice daily for a week.

I have a pimple in upper part of my vagina but out side. It just comes and go. It last about a week. It is not painful but when I press it after 2 days it produce pus then disappear. What is the course of that type of pimple?

    Reply
    1. Buddy M.D. Post author

Pimples are formed when the lubricating glands present in the genital area get blocked. It is common for pimples to get infected. On getting infected, pus starts getting collected inside them and the pimples swells up and becomes painful.

In a normal course, such pimples keep swelling with more and more pus inside them, to eventually drain outside. This may take around a week.

Management includes keeping the area clean, by daily washing, and dry. Wear loose cotton underwear to avoid friction over the bump. If the pimple becomes painful, you need to apply a topical antibiotic cream over it.

I have a small, red, pea sized (bit smaller) bump on the outer lip of my vagina. It is right on the edge where my underwear finishes (on the inside of my leg) and it rubs against my underwear with any movement I make. It’s quite painful and I’m not quite sure what to do?
I remember having something similar to it (not sure if it was the same thing) but I do remember it was a little smaller and not so painful.
Also area around it is quite red.
I’ve never shaved/waxed in that area in specific.
I’m too embarrassed to ask my mom/doctor.

He was my only partner. Since then, I did not have sex with anyone, but I masturbate sometimes and now I have pimple on my vagina but it’s only one and painless. It does not bleed nor I had pus discharge from it. It goes off within a week and recur in a week or two at same or bit different area on my vagina. Please help me. What is it? You need to ease up now.

Irregularlity of menses is more likely to be related to your depressive feelings. This is unlikely to be a gyne problem. As you come out of your past and take control of your thoughts, your hormonal levels would stabilise, so will your menses.

The pimple is likely to be a simple pimple, which gets infected. That may be reason why it recurs.

Apply a topical antibiotic, like mupirocin, over it. Apply it thrice daily for a week.

I have itching sensation but doesn’t have burning feel. on inner labia only one or two comes but on the outer labia initially one medium sized bump like pimple comes and then followed by small red pimples kind of things and they would count around 10 on both the lips. It takes a week time for them to completely vanish from the part. Sometimes they looks like blisters but i’m sure that there is no fluid inside them as seen in herpes. What are they and how to get rid of them. Please help me.

I’m 17 almost 18 and I’m on birth control but I’m not sexually active, it’s just for protection in case I do have sex. I have been on it for over a year (it hasn’t worked well with my body so I’m getting off of it soon). But I started my period a few days ago and I’ve noticed on the top part of the labia minora, there’s bumps. I don’t want to see an OB cause I would feel very uncomfortable with them examining me. So what could it be? What could I do about it without having to see an OB?

    Reply

These may be because of OCs. If you’re not planning active sexual activities, better avoid taking these hormones. Why interfere with body’s natural rhythms.

As you quit these pills, these bumps are very likely to go.
