Getting Pregnant After a D&C

Q: Hello doctor, I’m 21 years old. I had my miscarriage 10 days ago. I was 3 months pregnant, but my baby was not growing. I have little bit bleeding still after D&C. Please tell me after how much time I can conceive again? How long bleeding continues?

Sorry to hear about your pregnancy loss. Why was your baby not growing? What reason did your doctor give?

Bleeding after D&C usually tapers by 7 to 10 days. However, some women may still show some spotting and feel cramps for a few days. That’s normal.

It is advisable not to have sex till you have at least one normal menstrual period. This may take around 6 to 8 weeks.

This is also the usual time length required for healing of your pelvic organs, including your overstretched cervix, wounded ovary etc.

I am 32 yrs old. When I was 6 weeks pregnant I applied a poisonous lotion on my hair to remove lice and the very next day I suffered from diarrhea ad vomiting. I went to doctor, he told to have complete rest and and to take ORS.

I became stable after 5 -6 hours. Then, when I went for my routine check up after 2 weeks doc said I had a missed abortion. Do you think it was the reason for my abortion? What should I do to get pregnant soon.

Severe food poisoning may be a cause of abortion in early months. May be you ate something that gave you a diarrheal bug. Consequently, you had profuse diarrhea and vomiting.

Diarrhea leads to dehydration, which is bad for the fetus. Furthermore, bugs causing diarrhea may produce an endotoxin, which can directly affect the baby.

The anti-lice oil is for topical use on the scalp only. This is unlikely to be a reason for abortion.

Though such losses cannot be recovered, you need to relax now. As mentioned above, go for another conception at least after one normal menstrual period.
