Relation of Abortion With Mother’s Age

Q. I am 40 years this year. I’ve been trying to conceive, since I was 34, for the second baby. But I got two miscarriages at six weeks. What could be the cause?

The incidence of miscarriages become much higher after mid-30s. This usually leads to first trimester miscarriages that occur mostly at 6 weeks.

This is due to various factors including higher incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in fetuses of older mothers. Such fetuses with chromosome defects have lesser chances of survival.

In nutshell, the pregnancy is considered high risk in your age group.
