When to Resume Intercourse After Ovarian Surgery?
Q: Hi I am Helen. As I mentioned in my previous mails, now it has been 4 weeks since I removed my ovarian cyst (for serous cystadenoma of the ovary). Please advice when to expect my period and is it safe if I have sex now? I mean is there any chance of getting pregnant since I didn’t start taking birth control pills.
Best regards,
Helen
Reply:
It is advisable not to have sex till you have at least one normal menstrual period. This may take around 6 to 8 weeks.
This is also the usual time length required for healing of your pelvic organs, including your overstretched cervix, wounded ovary etc.
Yes, it is possible to get pregnant whenever you have sex. So it is better to be prepared, both physically and emotionally, for it.
