Managing Bumps in the Private Area

Q: I am 16 years old virgin. I am worried about this pimple-like bump on my private section. I popped it recently, and blood and pus came out. Is there any possibility that it might be something else if not a vaginal pimple. The anticipation is killing me. Please help.

In all likelihood, it’s a vaginal pimple, something very commonly found in this area.

Bump Getting Infected

Popping it was not a good idea. This is because our hands carry many bacteria. When you handled the pimple with your hands, you perhaps instilled a few bacteria in the lesion. Now, the picture looks like that of an infected pimple.

You may read about 3 simple and quick methods to treat them yourself.

Next time you find any such bump, do not pop or squeeze it. Simply keep the area clean and dry. A warm compress may be done thrice a day. The pimple will subside slowly on its own.

How to Do a Warm Compress?

Take a soft cotton cloth. Wet it with warm water and place it over the pimple. This will help soften the skin and reduce any pain and swelling over it.

Vaginal pimple slowly disappears or pops out on its own.

Managing Infected Acne

Your lesion now appears to be slightly infected. You can do the following to heal it:

  • Wear loose cotton underwears. One of the major cause of pimples in vagina is tight underwears. They trap moisture in the area facilitating growth of bugs. Loose breathable undergarments should be worn all the day.
  • Keep the area clean and dry. You may clean it thrice a day with plain water and an antiseptic solution.
  • The lesion may begin healing in a day. However, if you feel it’s not responding to the above method, you need to apply an antibiotic cream locally.

Local Antibiotic Application

Mupirocin ointment may be applied to the lesion twice a day for 5 days. Let one application be at bed time so that the ointment stays there for a long time.

It will start healing in about a week. A scar may be left behind, which would take a few more days to go.

Continue treatment….

Every time i pee it’s very painful; I almost cry. But there’s nothing I can do but to fight the pain. And some parts are irritating. I can’t wash it very well because of that pain. I have my period now.

Is feminine wash OK? I can’t go to my doctor because it is too embarrassing. What should I do? Please help.

They may heal on their own with time if they are not infected. An infected pimple will show some pus or whitish fluid inside it. It may be bloody.

If the pimple is very painful, it is likely to be infected. In all such cases, it is advisable to use some topical antibiotic on it.

Mupirocin is easily available in the market under the brand name bactroban.

This is a 2% ointment of the medicine and has to be used topically only.

A 22g tube of this medicine would cost around $20.

Apply it liberally 3 times a day over the pimple. It should help.

Also try doing warm compresses over the pimple twice in a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. After cleaning and warm compresses, then put the medication and let it stay there.

Thanks for the advice, but for now nothing has changed. It hurts so much. I think it is infected already, there’s whitish fluid inside. What medicine can reduce the pain?

Can infected vaginal pimple causes delayed menstruation?

        1. Buddy M.D. Post author

For the pain, do warm compresses on a regular basis. This will soften the pimple and drain some pus, reducing tension inside it. Easing tension would reduce pain. Keep applying the topical antibiotic cream. If you still have pain, any over the counter pain reliever like ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be taken.

Any fever, shivering or general feeling of ill health would imply that the infection has spread beyond the pimple in the body. If it is so, you need to take oral antibiotics too.

It is unlikely for the pimple to delay your menses.

I have bump on the outer lips of my lady parts. I thought it was a pimple so I popped it. Now, two days later it came back and now I have another bump a little ways away.

I’m too embarrassed to tell my mom about them. They are kind of sore when I put pressure on them and I’m a virgin. I haven’t done anything sexual. I’m freaked out right now.

I had a boil on my labia about 3 weeks ago. I never had one before. It was super painful. It was difficult to walk. It was large about the size of my thumb. It grew fast in 3 days, so I went to the doctor. He ended up draining it and giving me a 5 day antibiotic.

I had to do a follow-up appointment the next week. Well, I was shocked that it didn’t go away but the pain was way better. It turns out it was no longer infected but still the boil was there. So she had to drain it a second time and give me more antibiotics.

Now it’s been 2 weeks and it’s still there! I’m so frustrated and just sick of hurting and now it’s itchy. I’ve done several hot baths in the last several days with Epsom salt one day. I also have been wearing a gauze pad down there to alleviate any friction. One day blood popped out. But it’s still there with same size and still hurts. I’m still taking this 30 day antibiotic, which is way done.

How long can a boil in your labia last? Is it normal to last 3 weeks and still not gone? I’m beginning to freak out. Should I go to a different ob-gyn? Please help. I am feeling desperate. God Bless.

Have you tried antibiotic creams over them? If not, start using mupirocin over those bumps when small. This may arrest their growth.

Also, squeezing is not a good idea. Instead try repeated warm compress over the bigger ones to decompress.

Keep the area clean and dry. Start doing warm compress over the pimple, so that it gradually gets drained over 2 to 3 days. Do it gently, without giving yourself much pain. Also, apply mupirocin ointment over it twice a day for 3 to 4 days.

Your pimple sounds infected. It is likely to be pus filled. The pain is due to tension of the pus inside the pimple.

Do warm compress, as explained above, to soften the pimple and drain it gradually over 2 to 3 days. This will ease the tension inside it and reduce pain.

You also need to apply a topical antibiotic, like mupirocin, over it for three to four days.

The bump has to be drained now. You may go to your doctor for this purpose.

Or you may do it at home by gentle warm compress technique (Read above). Warm compress the pimple with a clean towel to soften it and drain any pus that can come out easily. Don’t force the drainage. Do this thrice a day.

Complete drainage would require 3 to 5 days.

Well, I have numerous vaginal zits covering me down there. It hurts when I pee and it hurts me to move as I would any day. Help?

    1. Buddy M.D. Post author

The reason for having numerous vaginal zits is excessive sebaceous secretions down there and improper ventilation of the genital area. Read here in detail about the occurrence of vaginal zits.

Just wash clean the area on a regular basis. Keep it dry, wear loose cotton undergarments. Apply bland coconut oil over the zits after washing them. This will act as an emollient and aid in quick healing.

Avoid using any perfumed product, sprays, gel or soap down there. They are not required. Cleaning with plain water is adequate.

Pimples are slightly inflamed bumps, due to collected sebaceous material inside, their membrane walls are stretched.

When you urinate, urine, which is acidic and full of salts, gets in touch with these inflamed swellings and give you the burning sensation.

Wash your genitals with plain water after you urinate. This will help alleviating this symptom and aid in early healing.

The cause of re infection is likely that the secretions oozing out from the bump is touching the nearby areas.

You need to keep it clean and dry. Whenever you notice pus, wipe it with a clean cotton ball. Avoid its spilling/ touching the near by areas.

Also, eat healthy to boost up your immune system.

History: I’m a 17 year old girl I’ve never had sex or even made out. I’m not sure if any of this has to do with what I have but here you go. I have a history of Kidney stones in my family (Dad, his dad, and his brothers) and I had a few little ones a year ago that I passed without any pain. The doctors never really figured it out because what they think were, if kidney stones they could never see them due to their smallness but it was all internal not external bumps or anything. I also before that got a pimple on my private area about two years ago. I popped it blood and pus came out and it was fine but hurt a little. Now about a month ago, when I was wiping myself after going to the bathroom I noticed a bump. It didn’t look like the pimple I had before. It was pink and looks like the rest of my vaginal area. When I squeezed it nothing came out. It just hurt and became white from the presser looked like a small ball inside me smaller than a penny. So I left it alone and it stopped hurting. Then as it wasn’t going away I would squeeze it more until it got smaller and blood came out. No pus. It was like I had deflated the ball. I’d kind of forgot about it until today. I have been stressed out about everything lately too, to the point of tears. So I was taking a shower and noticed that it looks bruised only a little, bigger and red, not pink, and so I squeezed it again. Blood came out a little like I poked it with a needle. I hope this was enough information. I just need to know if I should go to a doctor or tell my mom. I’m about to put a warm compress on it, I’ve never done that before. Thank you for having this site. Thank you for your time and knowledge. I appreciate it and you.

Girls and women, if you get vaginal pimples often and you shave, I would suggest not shaving. I know it’s been the trend for awhile but, it leave you open to more infections, ingrown hairs, etc. If you’re really freaked out by pubic hair, just trim closely with scissors and be able to see what you’re doing while trimming…otherwise have your mom or someone close trim hair for you.
Wear 100% cotton underwear, not nylon or synthetics. Wash it in hot water. Sleep with no underwear on Don’t use a lot of chemicals and soaps, just gentle products preferably organic and petroleum free
    (petroleum products can clog pores).
    Again, don’t shave.

If the bump is big and you feel it has pus inside, warm compress may be tried to drain out pus from it. However, this should be very gentle. Do not force drainage of pus at any time. If there is enough pus, it will find its way out by itself.

Likely to be a pimple. You may try warm compress over it, 3 times daily. Also, if it pains, start putting any antibiotic ointment over it.

Appears to be an acne down there. You just need to keep the area down there airy and roomy enough. Avoid friction over this lesion till it completely disappears. Partial healing won’t do.

Mupirocin ointment may be applied over it twice daily for quicker healing.
