Deanxit (Flupentixol + Melitracen) Tablet

Deanxit is grouped under medications that are used for treating depression.

Deanxit is made up of two components- flupentixol 0.5mg (or flupenthixol, an antipsychotic) and melitracen 10mg (a tricyclic antidepressant). When mixed together, the drugs work by maximizing the effect against illness.

However, it’s not a good choice because of its potential side effects.

Why Is Deanxit Banned in the USA?

The drug was produced in Denmark and distributed world wide. Recently, it was banned in the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan and Ireland. In addition, it was also banned in Denmark- its country of origin.

This is due to its potentially serious neurological side effects.

Flupentixol gives more side effects. And melitracen can’t be used in isolation as it gives inadequate results against illness.

Moreover, melitracen has not yet been studied fully. Essential clinical trials that need to be conducted are still due.

Intended Indications and Uses of Deanxit

As emphasized earlier, there are various other safer medications available for most of the intended applications of this drug. In any case, when used, it is given only for a short term under the supervision of a specialist doctor for the following conditions:

  • Depressive illness
  • Anxiety or bipolar illness. Its second component, melitracen acts against bipolar illnesses.
  • Psychogenic depression
  • Menopausal depression, where nothing else works
  • Long lasting myogenic headache
  • Resistant migraines
  • Certain gastrointestinal disturbances which have a neurological component.

Avoid Deanxit tablets, as far as possible. There are other drugs with better safety profiles which may be used instead.

Usual Ways to Prescribe and Counter the Adverse Effects

One or two tablets are given daily, once in the morning and once in noon. In severe cases, the morning dose is increased to two tablets.

Deanxit takes around 2 weeks to show its action. Initial phases are uncomfortable, one may get insomnia and other side effects.

The patients gradually get used to these effects. A medication called Truxal, 15 to 30 mg, is sometimes given in the initial phase to cover side effects.

Side Effects

An individual may get any of the following side effects:
    • It may cause Tachycardia, that is, an increase in the heart rate. You may feel fast heart beats in your chest that may make you uncomfortable. If you are a heart patient, taking the drug can be risky for you.
    • Patients taking the drug often complain of drowsiness.
    • A dizzy feeling may be there, as if you are about to fall. This is because the drug causes some orthostatic hypotension.
    • Indigestion, stomach upset or vomiting sensations.
    • Many have reported sleeping problems with this drug. There may be problems with initiating sleep, having disturbed dreams, restlessness are common.
    • Drug affects the bone marrow and decreases the production of new blood cells.
    • Dryness in mouth
    • Constipation
    • Changes in appetite or weight gain
    • Dull headache with blurred vision

Absolute Contraindications

As such, select safer alternatives. Anyhow, do not take this medication especially in these conditions:

  • If you are pregnant or lactating.
  • If you have any sort of cardiac insufficiency.
  • If you are extremely restless or agitated.
  • If you have a depressed level of consciousness.
  • Severe depression that requires hospitalization or ECT.

Precautions

While taking this drug, the following precautions are taken:
  • Don’t stop taking the drug without informing your doctor. He will supervise you in changing to other alternatives.
  • Do not take any other psychoactive drug along with this medication. They may adversely interact with each other.
  • Don’t take alcohol at all while you are taking this medicine.
  • Be careful while driving or while handling any other machinery. Some patients have reported extreme drowsiness with this medicine, which makes you prone to accident.
  • If you observe any side effect of the medication, worsening of symptoms or suicidal thoughts, report to your doctor at the earliest.

Managing an Overdose of Deanxit

It’s not uncommon to forget whether you’ve taken the pill in the morning or not. Sometimes, you may repeat the dose in such confusions. Taking 4 to 5 pills instead of one may be serious.

You’ll immediately feel very nauseous and confused. There’s a overall tired feeling in the body. You may feel rapid heart beats inside your chest wall. Some may develop deep suicidal thoughts.

Rush to the doctor immediately. These initial symptoms may later become more serious. Medical intervention is required to control them.

Withdrawal Symptoms

If you have taken the drug for a long time and need to withdraw it, do this carefully under the supervision of a doctor. The drug gives significant withdrawal symptoms.

It’s a habit forming drug, and does not allow easy withdrawal.

Some of the withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Anxiety and panic feelings, restlessness
  • Blurred vision
  • Problems in balancing
  • Difficulty in focusing at work
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Increased headaches
  • Hallucinations and disturbing illusions
  • Depression again, may be worsened

How to Withdraw?

It is therefore suggested that the withdrawal should be slow. Let it take a month.

  1. Try taking half the dose for one day and full the next day alternately for a week. Then reduce the drug to half and take it for the next week.
  2. During the third week, start skipping the medicine on each alternate day. You may then stop taking the drug altogether.
  3. If you get any unmanageable symptom in the process of withdrawal, report to your doctor.

If you want to cease taking the drug, the suggested policy is slow tapering of the dose over a period of time.

This tablet is still under clinical experimentations and has many side effects. So, it’s better for most to quit this and switch over to safer alternatives.

However, since you’re taking the pill under the supervision of your doctor, he may be in a better position to decide whether or not you need to leave this pill.

In that case, it would be better to wait for 3 months before getting pregnant.

The drug would completely leave the body in 3 months time.

I took many medicines, both Chinese and west, only Deanxit works. And if I stop taking Deanxit, the symptoms will come back. Now I stop taking any medicine, I still feel symptoms, of course that’s better than before. I don’t want to take Deanxit any more, because that has many side effect. Deanxit is prescribed in depressive illnesses of different types.

You may stop taking this drug and shift to SSRIs. They are a much safer option to be with in a long run.

Hi Doctor, I have been suffering from Nausea, Vomiting and no feeling of fullness since last 4 years.
I did endoscopy 3-4 times but nothing unusual found.
Then ultimately one gastroenterologist prescribed me FRANXIT along with CintaPro.

I am living healthy life since then. But when ever I tend to stop this franxit symptoms re-occur. I have become slave of this medicine. How can I get rid of this as it has been banned in India. Please help or suggest something concrete. I can’t even eat anything, I feel like vomiting and puking and no hunger. Please help me.

It is difficult to abruptly wean off from such medications. Patients usually complain of withdrawal symptoms.

It would be better to shift to a better, safer drug instead of deanxit. SSRIs are a preferred class of psychotic medicines. You may talk to your doctor about shifting to them.

After some time, you may consider slow and gradual withdrawal from that drug too. Abrupt stopping of these medicines is not suggested.

Also, start taking a some vitamin B12 supplement on a regular basis. This vitamin is a nerve tonic. It will improve your hunger, feeling of nausea and general well being.

It is not recommended to stop all medications all of a sudden. This will lead to withdrawal symptoms and a lot of discomfort.

If not taking franxit, you may take Serta 25, as you mentioned earlier.

Franxit is available in India. However, this drug is not safe for long term use. Using it cautiously for some time is alright.

Deanxit may lead to frequent mood swings. It can cause you to feel anxious all the time and give you a constant dull headache.

All these symptoms are perceived more during the initial phase of taking the drug.

If you are planning this medicine for a long period, it would be advisable to switch to some SSRI instead.

Deanxit has been banned in many countries due to its side effects.

      Deanxit is not appropriate.

For generalized anxiety states, the drug of choice is benzodiazepines. Many pills like alprazolam. diazepam etc. are available in the market. These would calm your daughter and help her adjust with the anxiety situations she is facing.

The reason why she is in this state needs to be evaluated. Most anxiety states are temporary. A short term course of medications with psychotherapy is usually adequate.

Since they are all prescription drugs, it is advisable to visit a doctor.

Hey Doctor, I have taken deanxit for almost 3 years now. I had a brain MRI done in April 2010 which showed I had white matter which meant the nerve jacket of my brain was wearing out. I was referred to a neurologist here in Nairobi, Kenya who put me on medication on these drugs Gabapentin , Cadisprin, pantocid and later deanxit drugs. However in July 2012 all the other drugs were dropped after I felt better and since then I have been taking deanxit only on alternate days ( I skip a day and take it the next day). I have greatly improved because I do not have the splitting headaches I used to have, my eyesight is now perfect, dizziness is gone, numbness is gone, I can sleep peacefully and now wake up feeling fresh which had never happened for almost 10 years.
What I feel now is just minor headaches which just began March and April 2014, lightheadedness sometimes when I wake up in the morning feeling like I did not get enough sleep and also I am usually agitated and moody sometimes.
My life is happier now though, I want to stop taking the drug due to the negative side effects and I also I want to get pregnant. Kindly advice me on what I should do. Thanks in advance.

I am 67 years old woman. I have been taking Deanxit for 19 years because of depression and anxiety. For the past 11 years, I took one tablet a day. Now I know that it is not a good medicine because of its side effects. In May 2014, I started to try stopping the drug by reducing my consumption:

May 13 to May 25: alternate between one tablet a day and half tablet on the next day
May 26 to June 30: half tablet every day
July 1 to July 16: alternate between half tablet and quarter tablet
July 17 to July 31: quarter tablet every day

Now I feel very discomfort and have bad side effects (e.g. insomnia, sense of vomiting, no appetite, and fatigue)

Deanxit is made up of two components, flupentixol and melitracen.

Medical lobbies have not yet completed their research on one of these component drugs. Moreover, the side effects of both these components are still not manageable.

Thank you so much for your wise assistance. I had earlier enquired about deanxit above and you asked me to see my doctor. I went and the doctor advised that I should be weaned off the drug gradually
    JUNE 2014 – I took 1 tablet after every 3 days for 1 month
JULY 2014- I took 1 tablet after every 1 week for 1 month
AUGUST 2014- I am taking 1 tablet after every 2 weeks for 1 month
SEPTEMBER 2014- I will take I tablet after every 1 month for 2 months

My worry is, since I started the JULY program, I have had dull headaches even when I have slept the whole night, nausea- the feeling of throwing up, constipation, agitation especially when the pain is too much, sometimes it’s difficult to sleep soundly without turning and tossing. I am easily disturbed by noise example loud music, a printer in the office printing etc. I feel moody and eat too much ( I feel a vacuum inside me which I feel only food can satisfy it, this has made me add weight a lot and all my life I have been skinny), my eyes sometimes feel strenuous, my body muscles also ache like I had carried a heavy load especially on the shoulders, arms, spine. I generally feel heavy.
Could these be withdrawal symptoms of Deanxit?
    Please advice a worried lady.

The medications prescribed are intended to replace the actions and effects of deanxit. They are capable of controlling your symptoms completely.

However, it usually takes around 10 to 15 days for the medicines to get established in the body and exert their full effect. You need to be patient.

You need to take the medicines till you have depression. Depression is a disease, characterized by disturbance of chemicals in the brain. As the situation gets cured, you may gradually withdraw the medicines one by one.

Will you suggest alprax .25 or .5 in place of zolfresh. This may take care of anxiety and sleep problem also. Will there be any problem in longer treatment means, I can do normal work at office? I am 60 years old.

Alprax will not be able to replace zolfresh.

The aim is to control all unpleasant symptoms. You may start with one medicine and include other medicines only if they are required.

Prodep and zolfresh are needed. You may start taking them. If you feel you still have some problems, you may consider including the other medicines too. If not, these two medicines are also enough.

Once your symptoms are under control and you feel better, you may surely go back to work.

I fully stopped Deanxit after consulting doctors including yourself. It is about a year now since I stopped it. I am controlling the symptoms by using Homeo medicine called Nux Vomica 30 C (1-1-1). I have now cut it down to 1 at night and sometimes 1-0-1. The withdrawal symptoms (common ones) are over now. But I feel stomach upsets (irritation and some sound from stomach after eating) and some irritation (little pain and itching) in the ear. My acidity problem in stomach has increased and I am not able to eat my usual food now. I have to be very careful what I eat now. Are these side effects of stopping of Deanxit? If so how long it will last? Do I have to take medication for this?

    1. Buddy M.D. Post author

These are not likely to be related to deanxit.

For now, it would be better to take medicines. You may start some antacid pills at the earliest. If not taken, your stomach may become prone to ulcer formation.

For the itchy feel in the ear, check if the skin out there is dry. May be you just need to moisturize the skin in and around the ear.

Most of the anti psychotics may cause some degree of constipation.

It would be advisable to manage it by dietary measures only. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your meals. You may start taking a fibrous supplement – an insoluble fiber, which need to be dissolved in warm milk and taken at bedtime.

Drink lots of water and try to stay active throughout the day.

All these measures would help you alleviate constipation.

    Sir,
One of the psychiatric advised alprax .25 morning and evening but another physician told it is milder to control withdrawal symptoms of deanxit. He now prescribed prodep, serta and zolfresh but I find zolfresh too hard medicine having headache and hangover. Can I take czpam 0.5 in place of zollfesh? Should I take only prodeo or serta also along with czpam? Will I be able to manage side effects and work normally at office?

You may try czpam instead of zolfresh. Take it for some time. There are good chances it will be able to control your symptoms.

    Hello Doctor,
Thank you for your helpful kind responses.
I was weaned off deanxit gradually. As I took the last dose of deanxit ( 1 tablet) on 11th September 2014 after the one I had taken on 11th August 2014. I later conceived on 21st September 2014, I am concerned if there are traces of deanxit in my body which could affect my unborn baby. This is because I had taken deanxit from 2011.
Kindly tell me if my baby can be affected even if I had stopped taking deanxit by the time I conceived.
    I will really appreciate.

Deanxit is not preferred, since it is a banned drug. For all anxiety- depression states, it is suggested to go for safer drugs like SSRIs.

I get side affects when I don’t take it and stay perfectly fine when I take it. Why is that? Please tell why I don’t get any of the listed side affects when I take it. And how do I stop using it slowly after taking it for 6 years? Please, give me some advice on it. I will appreciate the it. Thank you.

You need to take some medication instead of deanxit. You may start using SSRIs. Talk to your doctor about it.

Since you feel fine while taking these medicines, it’s clear that you require them for the time being.

I am a Pre-Medical student. I did have some anxiety issues earlier. I used to take Olanzapine-Fluoxetine. There’s a month to my exams. And my doctor suggested me now flupentixol and melitracen. I have been using this for a week. Conditions do get worse each day. There’s a sort of body imbalance. Do not know what’s happening all around. Concentration is poor too. Doctor told me that it would take sometime to get adjust. I just need to ask how much time it will take to get myself better and conscious. So i may study thoroughly.

Die druk geeft me extra veel pijn. Graag uw advies hierover… Vriendelijke groeten.

    Hi,

I am an anxiety and panic attack patient. I took deanxit about 8 years, 1 a day. I should say that it helped me. But I always had a bad feeling about deanxit. So, as I was feeling much better and I was going to have a surgery, I decided to stop deanxit. I stopped it in 3 steps, each 5 weeks. 6 weeks ago I quit completely. During reduction I head head aches and sleeping problems, but they were managable.

But then I started having constant anxiety. I sarted having constant thoughts in my head. Not important what thought. But I was always having something in mind, some dialog, some reasoning etc. It created mental fatigue and concentration issues. Plus depression and fear of losing my mind. Constant pressure of anxiety and dizzines. And sleeping has become almost impossible. Are these maybe the long term usage damages? Can they be temporary?

My current psychiatrist recently prescribed Cipralex and Trazodone. Trazodone is for sleeping. I started very newly. So, I have to be patient.

    Thanks!

    Dear Doctor,
I am taking deanxit for about four and a half months. After reading the theme here I decided to ask my doctor to replace it. You recommend some SSRI. Why I needed the drug? I am 63 years old and several years ago I got kind of general anxiety that was accompanied by raise in blood pressure. It could reach 180/100. This happened usually only in the evening and not every day. The cardiologist said I needed only sedatives and no blood pressure drugs. I found one food additive with California poppy (Sympathyl) that worked well for about 5 years but several months ago it stopped working. So I visited a psychiatrist, she said I was not for real antidepressants and gave me 1 deanxit a day + 0.25 mg xanax in the evening. Now I am in a process of withdrawing the xanax.
Can you please consult me what should I take in stead of deanxit – SSRI in small dose or something else?

This symptom is very likely to be due to Flupentixol.

Flupentixol may worsen the shaking in parkinson’s disease, if you already had it. It cannot induce Parkinson in you.

Since you didn’t have Parkinson prior to taking this medicine, shaking of hand is not linked with Parkinson. Anti Parkinson therapy won’t work.

Unfortunately, not much medical help is available to reverse this side effect of flupentixol. However, in most cases, once you withdraw the drug, these side effect improve with time, as your brain gets adapted to work without these D receptor antagonists.

Withdrawal may be done under the supervision of your doctor only. Somebody needs to see you physically. You may get withdrawal symptoms, that need to be taken care of.

Long term use of Deanxit may affect male fertility. There may be problems with erection. even the sperm quality in affected. In most cases, however, these effects are reversible.

Not every one would get these side effects. Patients have reported states of confusion, loss of memory and even episodes of seizures with long term use of the drug.

Hi, I was taking Deanxit for 4-5 years, taking 1 tablet a day and started to wean in May 2018. I started to get dizzy in just a few days and my Dr advised me to go cold turkey. (Crazy… but I listened) Things quickly declined, I felt more dizzy, off balance and tingling in hands, feet, legs, neck…. a week later the ER Dr told me to start taking it again, but 5 days later I felt worse and ended up in the ER, extreme dizziness, faint and tingling, shortness of breath. He told me to stop tge Deanxit and put me on Depokote 500mg. Basically it never helped fully, I still had dizziness, unbalanced, weakness, tingling, sensitvity to caffeine, nicotine, sugar. After a few months I started to wean from Depokote…. I got progressively worse. I have been off Depokote for 2 weeks and I am suffering a lot…. I think added withdrawal from tjis med now and I am worried I will end up in the ER again. This has all gone on for 5 months now!

What should I do?? I have seen 3 Drs all with different advice, I obviously have withdrawal syndrome and can continue and try to heal my body or listen to the Drs advice and take another med. 1 dr suggested I take Effexor XL 34.5 mg but I have read this is awful to wean from and told the Dr I wasn’t interested, another Dr said I should try Cipralex 15 mg…. will this help?? Aren’t these again two diff kinds of medications?? It is a different kind of drug? Depokote never did help much why would Cipralex?

I need help… advice, I have major withdrawal symtoms- very dizzy, weak, off balance, tingling and nerve burning, blurred vision, tight jaw, lightly slurred speech it seems to me anyway, insomnia, night twitches, breathing problems, sometimes brain zaps when I try to fall asleep.

Please advise. I was completely healthy before going off Deanxit. I have never experienced all this in my entire life!

As you well recognize, these are all withdrawal symptoms. Better not take any other medicine now. All suggested medicines may patch up some of the symptoms you have at the moment, but you’ll land up with having different withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking them. And the cycle would go on.

Try dealing with these withdrawal symptoms bravely. You need to take control over your brain. Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol. If needed, have it as little as possible. Your brain is sensitive to them, and this is actually a good sign, showing that it is coming out of the effects deanxit had established for years.

Drink plenty of water and detoxifying beverages like, lemonades, orange juices etc. Good hydration would help you cope up better. You’ll not feel that dizzy.

As for tingling and numbness, you’ll have to bear them. Stay busy with your favorite works to distract yourself from these troublesome symptoms.

You may feel much better in another 15 to 20 days!

Thank you! I pray I feel better soon… being dizzy for 5 months has been the most disrupting part of my life, it’s been worse lately so I stopped driving to be safe. I am very careful with what I eat and and drink to avoid intensifying symptoms and try to eat healthy and stay hydrated. I have started doing calming breathing exercises for the breathing and anxiety that came from going off the meds.

I’ve read only TIME can heal the body.. so trying to stay calm and take it day by day. It’s the very dizzy days (although I am dizzy every day fir 5 months) and shortness of breath that scares me at times.

I was given Lorazepam to sleep 2 weeks ago while going off the Depokote, I took it like 11 days in the past 16 days and just want to get off FULLY so it doesnt cause body dependence. I was only taking 1/6 of the 1 mg pill, trying to avoid addiction to it… and tapering now as fast as I can. Luckily it’s only been a few weeks, but I think my body likes it. I just want a body free of meds and let it HEAL. Cutting it smaller and smaller each day… it’s pretty small now but trying to avoid even more withdrawal symptoms, but I know I may have a few worse days.

Send any additional suggestions please… and tips to help recovery. I can’t take suppliments either… aggrivates my body. But I may try smaller amounts of magnesium and Fish oil. I’ve heard probiotics can be helpful also.

Thank you so much for your help!

I’ve been told by an online support group for antidepresant withdrawal that if I am suffering a lot and don’t think I can handle it that a Dr could try to reinstate only 1mg of melitracin, or imaprimine or amitriptyline?? What is your opinion on this?

My body is ultrasensitive to everything so it is risky…. but then also another drug to withdraw from. But I have been trying to wean from Lorazepam… I was only on it for 13 days out of 17 days for sleep and still not off and suffering, down to like 1/8 of the pill.. I have insomnia now, and breathing issues especially at night. Deanxit and going cold turkey has really messed up my body!

        Please send advice.

If your withdrawal symptoms are too disturbing, a small dose of imipramine may be started to support.

Is imipramine a safe drug? Or just the same as Deanxit??

Is it really risky to reinstate after 5 months off with lots of withdrawal when my body is ultra sensitive to even foods and suppliments?

        Is melitracin safe???

In Jordan it is hard to find imipramine and the supply is not consistant… I would hate to start at even a low dose and then not be able to continue.

    Hi Doctor
I contacted you earlier regarding Parkinson like symptoms (left hand shaking) from 2015 October upon using deanxit for 12 years and abruptly discontinuing in 2015 May. Currently, the Parkinson medications based on dopamine therapy are not providing any benefit but resulted in severe hunger and dizziness. The anxiety medications such as benzos, Propranolol, SSRIs (Nexito) are not working either for anxiety. I heard that deanxit is still available in some countries (eastern Europian, Russia) which I can get. I never had any adverse reaction to Deanxit during 12 years usage, only upon discontinuation. I am now 59 years old. What is your recommendation on this? Thank you.

It’s difficult to suggest you nothing remotely, without actually examining you. It would have been better if we could control your symptoms with SSRIs.

Since your symptoms are still there, no help, Deanxit may be tried again under the guidance of your doctor. Control of symptoms is more important at this stage.

Thank you. Can you please answer these specific questions if possible.

        1) Currently pacitane/artane (trihexi phenydy..) is giving small relief from the shaking without too many side effects. The doctor wants me to start using syndopa (carbi/L). However even using small doses of it quickly (within a few days) causes jaw muscle stiffness, dizziness, and severe unsatiable hunger. Dopamine agonists and other forms do the same thing. The doctor says there is not much else, and I must get used to the side effects if I want relief from shaking. Is there any other possibility of other medication for this possibly drug-induced parkinsonism?
        2) Anxiety has become more severe since stopping deanxit, and the doctor prescribed etilampro (etizolam + propranolol) and later petril beta (chlonazepam + propronolol). These are highly sedative, and I just cannot do any normal activities. Have been using nexito (escitaloprom oxalate 10 mg) for 15 years, and not it is not very effective after stopping deanxit. Does switching over to other SSRI help from this anxiety/panic disorder?
        3) Buddy MD earlier replied that the hand shaking started 3 months after stopping deanxit may be an indication that this may not be the real Parkinson disease onset, but may be just symptoms. If so, will they last three years or more as has been happening in my case?

        1. Buddy M.D. Post author

Answering your first question, as your doctor says, there’s nothing else than syndopa and related medicines to treat shaking hands if it’s from Parkinson.

There’s no point shifting to any other SSRI now. Looks like they are not working for you.

Well if shaking hands were a side effect and not Parkinson, they would have improved over time.

Do you have any other symptom of Parkinson other than shaking hands? Any one else in your family/ elders having this problem?

Thanks Doctor for the information. No, I currently do not have any other Parkinson symptoms other than left hand shaking which however is worsening over the three years since Deanxit discontinuation. NO family history. When I informed that long use of Deanxit might have blocked the D receptors per internet info, , the Buddy MD replied
            *************************************************************
This symptom is very likely to be due to Flupentixol.

Flupentixol may worsen the shaking in parkinson’s disease, if you already had it. It cannot induce Parkinson in you.

Since you didn’t have Parkinson prior to taking this medicine, shaking of hand is not linked with Parkinson. Anti Parkinson therapy won’t work.

Unfortunately, not much medical help is available to reverse this side effect of flupentixol. However, in most cases, once you withdraw the drug, these side effect improve with time, as your brain gets adapted to work without these D receptor antagonists
            *******************************************************************************************
Can some deanxit discontiniue effects be irreversible depending on the patient? Is this likely to spread to other parts of the body in the coming years if it were not real parkinson? Thanks.

          2. Buddy M.D. Post author

If it’s not Parkinson, tremors are unlikely to spread to other parts of the body.

These effects are mostly irreversible, however, you’ve already waited long for them to go away. It’s difficult to say why you have these tremors.

I hope a medical doctor can answer me this question. It is really important. My mother takes deanxit medication. Maybe she stopped now. I am aware that my mother went through depression before. I am not sure if she is still taking the meds now. I also read that this medication was banned in countries due to its potentially serious neurological side effects.

My mom is over 70 years of age now. I remember from long time ago that she talks to herself in a way like holding a conversation and not asking herself a question ( I sometimes when I studied or working in open spare area, I ask myself a question in a loud voice to assist me to concentrate on what I am working on and to remove the distraction, I never talk to myself as if I am having a conversation), My mom does that and it is now more frequent than before.

Is this considered normal? I mean talking to oneself as holding a conversation? he does not take sound decisions, due to several examples, her decision taking is not sound and has negative consequence. She still has grasp of certain aspects like the difference of money, 10 or 20 notes etc… she knows who are the leader in the country etc…
I am aware no one can give a diagnostic based on the above, but I would love is anyone can give me that the above is a indication to something is wrong in my mom’s mental state, she has everything in her name and I am worried that she would do something that will have a negative affect on the family.
I really thank anyone who can provide me with an answer. thanks all for your time.

        Hi,
I am aware of this, as I wrote in my question.
Is there anything you can write here to assist me to get some indication on whether there are issues in my mother’s mental state.
I spoke with some people and I got the understanding some of the aspects they ask if the person is aware of different types of money notes, or who is the leader or key personnel in the country, but what are other aspects that can give an indication? how do I know if it is a matter of mental state or if the person has bad tendencies but is of good mental state. I read on the web and I don’t seem to find, if you can direct me to where I can find info that would be highly appreciated.
Can you clarify on the potential serious neurological side effects of this medicine and whether it can affect the mental state to make a person not stable to take sound decisions.

        Thanks,

There are questionnaires for mental assessment tests, given according to the age of the patient. Clinics use them for making assessments.

ShilpaDear doctor, Its so pleasing to see that you actually take out your precious time to read the queries and revert to them. So here is my problem. My doctor prescribed flumelt -M as I had anxiety induced asthma. I took it for a year and was feeling all fine. Then suddenly I stopped taking the medicines so the asthma bounced back coupled with panic attacks. I again switched to this medicine, but this time the medicine had different salts(flupentixol and melitracen). My ashthma was cured again and I had lesser panic attacks now. So I myself started reducing the dosage( I used to take it twice a day everyday, so I reduced it to twice every alternate day) All in all its been 3 years since I am taking this combination. Now the problem is, when I take the medicine, that day goes all well and fine but the day I don’t take it, my asthma and panic attacks come back, even more severe. I really want to get rid of this as I am not able to concentrate on day to day activities. I am always gasping for oxygen. I can’t breathe. Plz help!

It’s very important for you to breathe well and keep your asthma under control. You need to be properly evaluated to know whether your asthma occurs only on anxiety or also on exercises, changing seasons etc. A detailed account of asthma history would reveal its type and decide the kind of treatment required.

Doctor, I usually had my asthma under control, it was few years ago in the year 2014 when it all started. I gasped for air. My doctor prescribed medicines for asthma like inhaler and stuff but it didn’t work. Later he diagnosed me and found out that my asthma was anxiety induced. So he put me on flupentixol tablets which gave me relief. Now the problem is, I can breathe normally when I take my medicines, but as soon as I leave them, again i can’t breathe properly. Also extreme temperatures make it more difficult to breathe. This further triggers panic attacks which are unbearable. Should I continue with anti depressants? Can changing my lifestyle get me out of it? coz I really want to get rid of it, once and for all.
    Thanks

At the moment, it would be advisable to keep taking your anti depressants.

Depressions or panic attacks are difficult to cure completely. Medicines may just help in controlling them.

Meditation, in any form, has been seen to gradually cure such problems from the root.

If she’s still suffering from anxiety problems, some medical support is required. You may quit deanxit tablets, however, some other pill may be started instead.

Side effects mentioned above are likely to subside within a month. Supportive treatment may be given. Since she,s having loose motions and vomiting, be cautious about replacing back body fluid as she loses.

Long term use would be taking it regularly for two years or more.

Well, stopping it abruptly is usually not suggested though. Depends upon what dosage is been given and for what ailment.

    Hi

This thread is going to prove to be a life saver for me.

I was incorrectly prescribed a high dosage of Deanxit (4 pills a day) + Escitalopram for three and a half years. I finally changed psychiatrist who was shocked to learn what I was on and we worked on a plan to come off the Deanxit, but keep the Escitalopram.

I stopped the Deanxint in May 2020. It is now January 2021. Since stopping the Deanxit, I feel unwell every 4-6 weeks (unwell as in I cant go to work because I am very fatigued, dizzy, a bit nauseas sometimes, my body aches). Furthermore since stopping deanxint, simple tasks like walking up the stairs have changed (I need to stop and catch my breath for a couple of minutes after) and also I find that shortness of breath is also very common occurrence.

My question is, could this regular feeling of being unwell be a direct result of stopping deanxint? I am someone who NEVER used to get sick before! So it is really disheartening for me to be unwell so frequently.

    Thanks
    M

May be due to sudden stoppage of the drug. However, these symptoms are temporary and likely to fade away with time. It may take a month or two for you to feel back your original strength.

Meanwhile, light stretching or yoga may help calming your body and mind.

Hi Doctor, I took Deanxit in the past for a few months, and had no problem quitting it. Now, after more than 10 years I´m taking it again mainly for depression sympthoms, and feet better, but just in case I tried to switch to IRSS or other medicines. I tried many of them with no result, or even worseing of sympthoms (Sertraline, Buprion, Amitriptiline, Vortioxetine, Valdoxan, Lamicatal, and others…), but the only one that works for me is Deanxit. Since I get better after just a couple of days, I deduce is because of Flupentixol, which is fast action medication. This is why I´m looking for some similar medicines as Flupentixol, can you please reccomend some?

    Thanks!

Short duration courses with the deanxit may not give side effects. Long term use, of more than 2 years, may result in detrimental effects.

It’s difficult to suggest a replacement of the drug precisely without actual physical exam of the patient.

Physical exam? What details do you need?
I was thinking in trying Ludiomil as a Hetheracyclic
And also as a Neurolepticthe sulpiride, as it seems to act like the Flupentixol.
