If you go to the reason why pimples occur, you’ll be able to prevent their recurrence.

Pimples occur when the ducts of the oil glands supplying the face get blocked. Oil keeps collecting inside the duct, leading to its swelling and pimple formation.

It is common for pimples to get infected and become painful.

To prevent pimples, frequently wash your face. This would wash off dirt and tissue debris from the skin, preventing the clogging of oil glands.

Eat healthy, less of fried fatty stuff and more of fresh fruits and vegetables. This would cleanse your skin from inside.

Drink plenty of water. This is the best detoxifier. Read above about more tips to prevent pimples.

Sir, I’m a 16 year old girl. I want fair skin so I’m planning to use melas cream and lotion. Please tell me if it can have any side effects. I’m confused, I read mixed reviews about the cream, some say it’s herbal while others say it’s a steroid and can cause pimples and other side effects. Please guide me and clear my confusion.

This is not a herbal product. It contains a chemical called hydroquinone, which inhibits melanin production in the skin. Due to less melanin production, pigmentation is less and skin appears fairer with time.

Side effects are definitely there. Melanin protects us from harmful exposure to sun. On using this cream, your skin may become over sensitive to sun. It may itch or even burn when exposed to sun light.

Also, once you start using the cream, stopping its use may become difficult. Withdrawal has to be slow.

Try natural methods on a regular basis. You may crush papaya/ raw potato and apply it over your face. Let it stay there for 10 to 15 and then wash. Apply some moisturizer over your face.

Both potato and papaya juice are natural bleaching agents. They may gradually reduce your skin tone by one shade.

I used mealas cream and lotion for the past 2-3 days and now I got pimples. My face burns in the sun, what should I do? Please tell me a solution to avoid this burning sensation and how I get back my old skin tone.

Stop using the cream. Your skin would take time to gradually attain its tone and start the production of melanin, a pigment which is essential to protect you from harmful radiations.

For the burning sensation now, don’t go out in the sun. If you have to go, use a sunscreen lotion and carry an umbrella with you.

    Hi,

This morning when I woke up my face, arms, back, and chest broke out with acne. I was so mad because I finally got my acne cleared up and I have a party that I’m going to this Saturday and the dress I’m wearing reveals my back, chest, and arms. I regularly use my clarasonic for my face, and for my back and chest I just use body wash for acne prone skin and tretinoin gel 0.01%. For my arms I use KP Duty lotion and scrub by Dermadoctor because I have keratosis pilaris. I’m not sure if I’m going too harsh on my skin, but I want to know if I should stop using any of these products? My chest broke out the most, and that area is very sensitive, and I’ve started using benzoyl peroxide on my chest today, I just want to make sure it won’t make it worse. What should I do?

Since there is a limitation of examining you physically, it is difficult to comment whether the treatment prescribed to you is more than required or not.

For now, since you have got too many acne, you may continue with your medications.

Once they have gone, it is suggested to try out natural ways to treat acne. Acne occur when there is excess of oil over your skin. A daily shower, once or twice a day, as per need, assures that the excess oil gets washed off.

Too much use or soaps or gels over the skin renders them dry. This may also predispose the skin surface to acne formation. Dry flakes appear over the skin and contribute in blocking the oil secretory ducts of the skin.

Consume more of fresh fruits and vegetables, less of fried fatty stuff.
