Hard Purple Pimples Could Be Cherry Angiomas or Angiokeratomas

Q: On my bikini line, I have a hard blackish purplish pimple. When I squeeze, it looks like a white blood filled pimple. I have a smaller pus filled pimple near my clitoris and an extremely painful bump near my anus. I am an 18 year old virgin female. I have had around 6 blood transfusions since birth due to my blood disorder. Is this something I need to worry about?

Your lesions sound like some hard vascular fluid filled structures. They are likely to be angiokeratomas, also called cherry angiomas.

What Are Angiokeratomas

These are small localized areas of overgrowth of tiny blood capillaries. This is accompanied by overgrowth of epidermal cells in that spot (keratinization), making these lesions hard in texture.

Clinical Appearance

They appear as hard purple to black colored pimples. Angiokeratomas are benign lesions. They give no other symptom unless infected.

The one near your anus appears to be infected . That is the reason why it is painful.

Cause

There is no definite cause why angiokeratomas occur. Anyone can have them. They tend to be more in childhood, pregnancy and in late old age. They are unlikely to be linked to your blood disorder, or other underlying disease.

Treatment

Angiokeratomas need no treatment unless complicated.

Complications can be as follows:

  • They may grow larger in size and cause discomfort.
  • May get infected by local germs of that region.
  • They may bleed as they are basically vascular growths.

If infected, an antibiotic course is given first to combat infection. After the infection is in control, excision of the vesicle may be considered.

Removal of Hard Purplish Pimples

One way is to get it removed by surgery. Surgeon excises it out taking care of complications like bleeding. Now-a-days removal by laser ablation is becoming more popular. Sometimes people go for it because of cosmetic reasons as well. In this procedure, high frequency radio waves are used to dry up these pimples.

Since giving an exact diagnosis is not possible without a physical exam, I would suggest you to visit a doctor. You definitely need treatment for the bump near your anus, don’t let it worsen further.

If not angiokeratomas, your lesions could be simple infected acne. However we would put that as the second possibility.

Self Care

  • Do not scratch or press those pimples. They appear vascular and by any hand maneuvering you may transfer skin bacteria in them.
  • Keep them clean and dry. Washing them with clean water would be adequate.
  • Wear loose cotton bra-series and under-wears to keep the region aerated and dry. This would prevent any fungus to grow over them.
  • Take plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to boost up your immune system.
  • Keep yourself well hydrated by taking adequate water.

Your lesions don’t look scary. Visit your doctor to start treatment for quicker results with minimum scarring.

I am having a black, tiny pimple between one side of the vaginal and I have never done the sex. What can it be and how can I treat it?

Is the pimple painful or itchy? If not, leave it as such. It is likely to regress on its own with time.

Don’t squeeze or scratch it. Keep the area clean and dry. Read more on the topic above.

Hi, I’m a 15 yr old girl and recently I found a small red spot on the top of my clitoris. It’s not painful or anything and I recently just had my period, has it perhaps been induced by that? There’s no pus or anything, it’s been worrying me, is there something I can do about it? All your help is much appreciated.

Are you sexually active? If yes, you need to see a doctor to rule out the possibility of any STD. This may be an early stage of some infectious sexual disease.

If you are a virgin, this tiny red dot may be an inclusion cyst or a pimple. If it is symptomless, just let it be. It is likely to subside on its own with time.

I’m 16 years old and have never had sex, or done anything sexual with anyone else but, I have a small red bump next to the opening of my vagina (nowhere near the pubic area, so it can’t be an ingrown hair). It doesn’t hurt unless I touch it or mess with it, and afterwards it itches a little bit. Is this a vaginal pimple? What can I do to take care of it?

This may be a cherry angioma. Read above in details about it.

If it’s not painful, it is likely not to be infected. You may just let it be. Just maintain good hygiene down there. Wear loose cotton underwear to avoid friction of any kind on the bump. The bump is likely to go away on its own with time.
