Painful Infected Buttocks Acne

Q: Hi, I had a pimple on my ass. It was small and painless for around 4 days. But now, it hurts. Is it because I have a sitting job? What medicine do I take for it?

Looks like your pimple has got infected.

Pimples are an excellent breeding ground for the growth of bacteria. The oil accumulated there, with dead skin cells and other tissue debris are all organic stuff required for bacterial growth.

So, acne on ass very commonly becomes red and painful, indicating an infection.

Common Mistake We Do to Infect Acne

Popping or squeezing the acne with our fingers is the commonest way we infect it.

Our hands are full of staph bacteria. When we fiddle with the pimple in any way, the bacteria gets transferred from our hands into it.

It then grows inside the pimples causing inflammation. This inflammation makes the pimples red and painful.

Slowly, pus is produced and gets accumulated inside it. This makes the acne even more tense.

Furthermore, the butt area is already exposed to infections. Lesions like pimples are likely to catch an infection if there is any neglect in cleaning of the area on a regular basis.

Management

Keep the area clean and dry. Apply a topical antibiotic like mupirocin over the acne twice a day. Do this for a week. Your lesion should gradually subside.

Since they are pus filled, you need antibiotics to treat them.

Do warm compress over them before bedtime. This will soften the bumps and help in draining the pus inside them. Do not force drainage at any point. Only wipe off the pus which comes out easily.

After cleaning the area, apply a topical antibiotic, like mupirocin, liberally over the bumps. Do this daily for 4 to 5 days.
