A mature teratoma is a benign tumor (or a growth) which develops from germ cells present in the ovary.

They are also called dermoid cysts. The growth has varied types of cells like hair, tooth, and other tissues in it.

Your wife has such a cyst in her ovary. Treatment of choice in such cases is removal of the cyst by surgery or laproscopy.

Why Do We Need to Remove a Dermoid Cyst?

These cysts have tendencies to complicate. It may cause the ovary to get twisted due to its mass. This twisting of the ovary may obstruct its blood supply and damage it.

Dermoid cysts may also rupture, leading to spillage of its greasy contents into the pelvic cavity. This may lead to infections, or adhesions there.

Rarely, though, these cysts may turn cancerous at a point.

Yes you may, but be gentle. There is a risk of ovarian torsion (twisting) on any aggressive movement.

Also, she should avoid lifting heavy weights and too much of physical strain.

Your U/S shows hypertrophy (overgrowth) of the inner most uterine layer. This occurs normally around menses, or abnormally in other disease states.

That is why your doctor requires to do another U/S, when you are not around the menses. If the hypertrophy is still there, it may be due to some disease process. Further investigations would be required.

You get a hemorrhagic cyst when bleeding occurs in one of your ovaries. A balloons sort of cyst gets formed, which is filled with blood.

This is not uncommon. Most of them resolve on their own. However, in your case, it has given you pain. Furthermore, the blood has leaked out to get collected in the pelvis.

Your doctor may consider surgical correction.
