Does Chlamydia Have an Oral Transmission?

Though the risk of transmission through genito-oral route is lesser as compared to genito-genital route, chlamydia certainly gets transmitted orally. This is already an established fact in the medical literature. It’s not necessary to have proper semen exposure. If any amount of precoital fluid gets into your mouth from an infected individual, there is always a risk of contracting chlamydial infection.

A person may become infected repeatedly. There is no significant immunity following the infection.

Sometimes, the infected individual does not show any symptoms and signs of chlamydial infection. This is because the total organism load by genito-oral route is usually less. So if you strongly suspect the infection, then you may get yourself tested. Otherwise wait for few days and watch for the development of symptoms.

Treatment of Chlamydial Infection

The treatment of chlamydia is quite simple.

The antibiotics doxycycline (100 mg twice a day for 7 days) or azithromycin (1 gm as a single dose) are used to treat chlamydia infections. Patients with allergies may take ofloxacin or erythromycin base.
