Pearly Penile Papule- Treatment and Removal

Surgical methods are available for removal of pearly penile papule. They are:

Laser CO2 Method for PPP removal

• The bumps are dissolved using targeted CO2 laser.
• The patient is hospitalized for 2 to 3 weeks.
• This procedure is quite expensive.
• The recovery period is about a month or more.
• The treatment is very painful.

Surgical Excision of Pearly Penile Papule

Here the papules are scrapped off under local anesthesia. The procedure however has some disadvantages. They are –

• The procedure is expensive.
• Hospitalization is required for 2 -3 weeks
• The treatment is painful and permanent scars are usually formed on the penis skin.
• Recovery time is about a month.
• Patient has to abstain from sexual intercourse till recovered.
• After some time, the penile papules may reappear.

Removal of Bumps by Hyfrecator

The Hyfrecator uses low powered AC electric pulse to treat the papules. The electrode of the is kept above the bumps and current is passed. The entire bumps are removed by a single application. In some cases, they are removed in stages.

This method ensures complete removal of the papules. Disadvantages are –

• The method is very painful and costly.
• There is a chance for loss of sensitivity.
