Jumping Periods and Private Area Lesions Flaring Up

Q: I am an 18 year old girl. I tend to jump around 4 to 6 months without my periods.. I want to know what causes this? And I also have hard vaginal pimples every time I am on my periods. Why does this happen and what can I do?

There can be many reasons for having any kind of irregularity in your menstrual cycle. Your age is a transitional one, requiring many physical, emotional and biological adjustments. You may read about causes of missing periods here.

Increased Bumps During Periods

Having pimples in the vaginal area is just like having them anywhere else in the body. The factors responsible for them are also the same.

Tendency to have pimples increase during teenage. You may read here more on vaginal pimples.

During menses, the moistness of the vaginal region increases making it more favorable for pimples to grow. Just keeping the area clean and dry would help.

Women of reproductive age groups commonly get acne in their genital region during menses. This is because, during menses, the region is more moist and secretions produced are also more. These factors are the main cause behind eruption of pimples.

All she needs to do to prevent this is keep her groin region cleaner and drier during menses.

She needs to wash the area more frequently. Also, ask her to change her pad more often.

Wearing cotton underwear always would help, as this fabric soaks away the trapped moisture of the region.

I develop vaginal pimple before and after my period but at times it does not appear and when I pop it up it has a yellowish whitish liquid and after that just blood. Should I be alarmed?

There is nothing to be worried. It is common to get pimples during menses. This is because the groin area is more moist and active in secretions during that phase. Hormonal factors also play a part.

Try changing your pad more often and keep the area clean and dry. This would help preventing pimples.

This appears to be a simple pimple. Pimples in the groin region are commoner during menses. This is because, during menses, the area is very moist and plenty of tissue debris is lying there, which may block the tube draining the vaginal glands and produce pimples.

      Read above in detail.

To avoid them, change your pad frequently. Wash the area with plain water twice daily during those days.

I always have pimples on my labia minora. I use some antibiotics hoping they will go away. They only go away for a short time and then re appear and they normally occur after menses. They are very uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Please help to diagnose. I recently went to a Doctor and he said it’s not an STD, so very confused what it could be. Thanks.

I have been having these bumps for a while. I thought they would go away but they haven’t. They don’t hurt but they do itch sometimes. Sometimes I forget to take a bath. I’m not sexually active and I don’t Masturbate. What’s happening? How do I stop it?

If you are a teenager or in your twenties, it is common to have such bumps.

All you have to do is to take care of your personal hygiene and food habits. Take a bath daily and wash the genital area thoroughly with water. No soap or gels are needed there.

Wear loose cotton underwear most of the time. This is to keep the area well ventilated and free from moisture. This would prevent the eruption of pimples and bumps. Also, soft cotton stuff minimizes friction there. So, rashes and bumps stay away.

Let the lowers be loose, most of the time.

Eat less of junk food and fried and fatty stuff. Drink plenty of water. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables in your meals.

Hi! I have this bump on my labia and it swells and hurts when my period comes by. I always squeeze the pus out but always swells back up with no pus. Also, sometimes when I’m about to go to sleep, I began to hear really loud but scary music in my head then I see a twisty form of a dark color. I am wake but my body is paralyzed and as much as I tell my body to move or wake up it doesn’t. This whole part scares me to death. Then the twisty thing twist backwards, the music lowers and then I could move. When I look at the time it’s only been 5 or 4 minutes and it’s starting to happen frequently. Please help.

It’s common to get pimples during menses. You need to keep the region clean and dry to avoid them. May be, changing the pad frequently would help.

If it comes, apply mupirocin ointment over it, twice daily for 3 to 4 days. The pimple would regress.

Fear is making place in your mind. You need to be very brave and rational to deal with the situation. Tell yourself clearly that no such black shadow exists. It’s all your imagination. If your are bold enough, it will not disturb you.

Getting more pimples down there during menstrual flow is normal. This is due to changes in hormones, and accumulation of excess secretions and moisture down there.

To limit the condition, keep the area down there clean and dry. Change your pad more often.

Appears like the infection is spreading to the near by areas. When a pimple pops, infected material from inside it comes out and may get in touch with the surrounding healthy skin. This may infect the surrounding area, giving rise to more pimples there.

To avoid this, keep the area clean. Take care that the pus coming out of a lesion doesn’t contaminate surrounding area. You may start using a mild antiseptic to clean there.

A few years back I would get 3 or 4 white bumps on the skin during my period. I would pop them and let them drain out and leave them alone. Sometimes they might have had a white hair in it. Ive also had bumps that were positive for staph and had to taken antibiotics. These bumps regularly came during my cycle for maybe 6 months. Then the weather got warmer, I started shaving regularly and primarily wearing tampons which I still currently do. I haven’t had those bumps in 2 years now. Was this normal? I was 15 back then and I am now 18.
