Excessive Vaginal Discharge

Q:  Hi, for the last 3-4 days I get vaginal discharge while doing house hold works . I feel very weak due to it.  Kindly tell me why it is so?

If the discharge is normal in color and smell, it’s just excessive in amount, there can be the following reasons for it-
  • Excessive discharge is one of the rare side effects of hormonal birth control pill, if you happen to be on that.
  • In mid-twenties or so, its normal to be wet all the time. This is because of proper ovulation and your body trying to get you pregnant. There can be a general increase in sex drive and a general puffiness (increase in blood circulation) to the labia area. If it irritates you, panty liners can be tried. They can be helpful. Make sure you are wearing loose clothing in natural fabrics. 
However, if the discharge is not normal in color and smell, the diagnosis may be different. Let me know if any of the below is true-

  • Discharge is accompanied by itching, rash or soreness
  • Any burning on skin during urination
  • White, clumpy discharge (somewhat like cottage cheese)
  • Grey/white or yellow/green discharge with a foul odor

    I’m fourteen and for the past two years I have been experiencing vaginal discharge that is sticky and clear and has an odor similar to my normal vaginal one. The discharge stops a few days before my period and starts again a few days after. I also have vaginal pimples that don’t hurt but they do pop when I’m in the shower. I wear cotton panties as much as I can which is every night and around three days a week. Is this normal?

      It is natural for a female to get more of vaginal discharge in her teens. These secretions are meant for lubrication required by the genital organs.

      You need to be concerned if you find any of the following signs:
      Any itching down there
      Foul smell from discharge
      Pain
      Change of color of the vaginal secretions

      Occurrence of pimples is also normal in this age. Just as you get pimples elsewhere on the body, you may get them in your genitals also.
