Drug induced tremors are not dangerous. They will go away as you stop taking the medicines causing them.
Certain medicines produce tremors as a side effect. Tremors are involuntary movements (movements caused without our will) of certain muscle groups of our body. It may be hands, legs, head or even eyelid tremors.
This response is just a side effect of the medicine. It is not permanent and will go as you stop taking that particular medicine.
Though not dangerous, these tremors may be embarrassing or may interfere with day to day activities. In such cases, you may discuss with your doctor about changing your medicines. Similar medications which don’t give this side effect may be given.
Never stop taking the medicines on your own. It may be dangerous.
Measures to Decrease Tremors
To reduce the severity of tremors, the following precautions may be taken:
- Avoid caffeinated drinks for sometime.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol. It may add to tremors.
Sometimes when the tremors are very intense and your doctor cannot change your medicine, he may given you pill to counteract drug induced tremors.
