Bleeding After Dilation and Curettage

Q: I’m 28 years old. I had a miscarriage on 1/13/2013 followed by a D & C. I bled for 6 days lightly. I am now at day 12 and I am bleeding again. Is this my period or what? I’m confused. is this a sign of infection or something? This Sunday will be 2 weeks. Please help.

Vaginal bleeding, similar to menstrual bleed, is common after a D & C. Some pelvic pain may also accompany. This is considered normal.

Signs of Infection After D & C

  • Fever
  • Foul smelling discharge from vagina
  • Pain in abdomen
In case you experience any of these symptoms, visit a doctor. You may require some antibiotics.

    Hello I had a D&C 9 days ago for thickened endometrial lining I was not pregnant. I had very little spotting for the first few days. Two days ago the spotting started and it was brownish color. This morning I woke up to what seems like my period starting. I checked the calendar and it would be due tomorrow. How can I tell if this is an infection or my period?

      Pain pain, itch, foul smell, increased urinary frequency or burning down there? If no, it’s unlikely to be an infection.
